What Makes The Perfect Lawn?
Understanding The Process
Proper Mowing
"Just a little off the top"
Proper mowing is one of the most important cultural practices to turf grass management. What height your lawn should be cut on depends on your type of turf grass but no more than 1/3 of the grass blade should be cut off at a time. Cutting more than 1/3 of the grass blade off will stress the grass and also leave a thick layer of thatch.
While a small layer of thatch is healthy for a lawn, thatch too thick will block sunlight, water, and air, favoring an environment for a fungus.
Irrigation Management
"Life is all about balance"
Like everything else on this planet, grass needs water to live. Proper intervals of irrigation encourages grass and plants to develop healthy roots. However, watering too often or not enough will cause issues within the turf.
How much water your lawn needs depends factors such as type of turf, soil, time of year, and region.
The best time to irrigate you lawn is always early morning. Watering late afternoon will leave water on the turf for a longer amount of time and encourage fungal diseases.
Environment, Sunshine, & Shade
"Location, Location, Location"
Have you ever noticed how under trees with a lot of shade, grass just never grows like you want it to? This is because while some grass types are more shade tolerant than others, some grasses such as bermuda grass require full sun to thrive. Factors such as soil composition, drainage, and overall environment also play a big role in how healthy a grass type can be.
The Right Turf Care Program
"The cherry on top"
Every grass type requires a certain soil pH level to thrive. The right lawn care professional can measure your soil's pH and if needed, get the soil tested to determine what will be the best lawn care program for you.
At Turf Lab, we understand the science in lawn care. The way we apply that knowledge to your lawn is what makes the difference.
